WASHINGTON — U. S. health regulators on Wednesday recommended Tuesday they recommend that the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services prescribe more than 60 drugs for erectile dysfunction (ED) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The recommendation applies to Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and Staxyn, and to Levitra’s other erectile dysfunction treatments, Cialis, Staxyn and Levitra XR, which are already available generics.
The recommendations are being based on a review of drug safety data, which the FDA has released after the agency’s review of more than 1,400 drugs. The review is ongoing. The review also includes information on the safety of the erectile dysfunction drugs in the new recommendations.
According to the review, Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and Staxyn are all considered to be the safest, most potent and least risky erectile dysfunction drugs. In fact, the drugs are currently only available from Pfizer’s online pharmacy.
Viagra, Cialis and Staxyn were not included in the new recommendations because they are not approved for ED use by the Food and Drug Administration, the agency has said. The FDA says it does not have enough data to determine which drugs are safe and effective for use in ED and PAH.
“The safety and efficacy of these drugs in patients with ED and PAH have not been adequately evaluated, and their safety and effectiveness in these conditions are not well established,” Dr. Bruce P. Shabsigh, a spokesman for the FDA, said in a statement.
Viagra and Cialis are currently approved by the U. Food and Drug Administration to treat both ED and pulmonary arterial hypertension, or PAH. Both conditions are known to cause heart-related problems. PAH can affect the heart or the lungs.
“We have no data to support a recommendation that these drugs be used in patients with ED and PAH, and we have not been able to evaluate the safety and efficacy of these drugs in these conditions,” Shabsigh said in a statement.
The FDA says it is evaluating the safety of Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and Staxyn. It does not have enough data to determine which drugs are safe and effective for use in ED and PAH.
Viagra was the most frequently prescribed drug in the United States for ED and PAH, according to the FDA. Cialis and Staxyn were the most frequently prescribed drugs in the United States for ED and PAH. Both drugs are also prescribed to treat ED and PAH. Cialis is available as a chewable tablet and can be taken with or without food.
In the past, the FDA has also recommended the addition of a daily dose of tadalafil to ED treatment. Cialis was the drug most commonly prescribed in the United States for ED and PAH.
Pfizer, the maker of Viagra, has said it is reviewing the recommendations and is reviewing the data on the safety and efficacy of the drugs. Pfizer has not responded to anached emails and calls from people who have not yet responded to the reports.
The Food and Drug Administration has not yet released a specific recommendation for each of the drugs. However, the agency has a variety of options to try before approving or changing drugs to treat ED or PAH. The FDA has proposed using a new form of the erectile dysfunction drugs, Levitra and Staxyn, or changing the dosage of the drugs.
“This is not a new recommendation, and there is not a specific recommendation,” said Dr. Peter C. Dowsett, director of the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.
Dr. Dowsett said he has not seen evidence that the new recommendations will help patients who have not responded to other treatments. However, he said the drug safety review may be helpful to patients who are still using other drugs for ED and PAH.
“There are many other ways that patients can improve and to improve their ED and PAH,” he said.
The review is ongoing and the FDA is working to provide more information on the safety and efficacy of these drugs in the United States.
